At the centre of the event sits the Merdeka Fest Challenge, a stamp collecting activity where guests take part in a series of Malaysia inspired stations such as Build-A-Heart, Build-A-Tower, Merdeka Colouring, the Malaysia Discovery Quest, a LEGO Mural of the Jalur Gemilang, a photo booth with minifigure trading, and Sort for a Greener Malaysia. Complete the stations, collect your stamps, and redeem a prize, subject to availability.
When and Where Merdeka Fest Takes Place
Merdeka Fest runs from 27 August to 20 September 2026 at the Theme Park, based around The Beginning area of LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort. That gives visitors close to a month to work the event into a Johor Bahru trip, whether you are coming for National Day itself or planning a visit during the school holiday period that follows.

1. Speed Building Challenge
Held on 28 August at 3:00 PM at the Beginning Stage, this challenge pairs one adult aged 18 or above with one child aged 12 or below for a race against the clock to complete a surprise LEGO build. Registration happens on the day on a first come, first served basis, and the competition is capped at 36 teams across three preliminary rounds.
The two fastest teams from each round move to a final round of six teams, where the champion, first runner up and second runner up are decided by build accuracy and speed.
2. Merdeka Costume Contest
On 29 August at 12:00 PM, children aged five to thirteen are invited to dress in traditional Malaysian attire or a creative Merdeka inspired costume. Registration opens between 11:00 AM and 11:45 AM, giving families a tight window to get their little ones ready before taking to the stage.
3. Batik Painting Competition
The following day, 30 August at 5:00 PM, shifts the focus to art. Kids aged five to thirteen bring Malaysian inspired batik designs to life, with registration open from 4:00 PM to 4:45 PM. It is a quieter, more contemplative contrast to the speed and costume events earlier in the week.
4. Merdeka Singing Competition
Merdeka Fest closes its competition run on 31 August at 12:00 PM with a singing contest open to all guests, not just children. Ten finalists are selected to perform live at LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort, making this the one competition where adults can take the stage themselves rather than only cheering their kids on.
Together, these four days turn the resort into something closer to a community celebration than a typical theme park visit, and they are worth building your schedule around if your trip falls within that window.
Cultural Performances and Shows Not to Miss
